India imposed an anti-dumping duty on herbicide imports from China. The Finance Ministry issued a notification that, for five years, the government has imposed an anti-dumping duty on Pretilachlor, a popular herbicide and its other related forms.
“The recent imposition of anti-dumping duties on select Chinese imports is a timely and essential move to ensure a level playing field for India’s manufacturing sector,” says Maninder Singh, Founder & CEO, CEF Group. Singh adds that for the domestic manufacturers, these actions go beyond mere protection—they foster an environment where innovation can thrive and secure livelihoods for countless families.
The subject goods have been exported to India, according to the Finance Ministry. They have been exported at a price below the normal value, thus causing dumping. The prices of the domestic industry are being undercut. The landed price of imports is below the level of the selling price of the domestic industry.
Material injury to the domestic industry in India is the result of the dumping of the subject herbicides. To protect the domestic industry of India, the ministry said it has recommended the imposition of an anti-dumping duty on Pretilachor and its other related forms originating or exported from China.
Pretilachor has been mainly used in rice cultivation to stop weeds like broadleaf and sedge. Farmers use it at the time of paddy sowing. The anti-dumping duty imposed on Pretilachlor ranges from $1246 to $2017 per metric ton of product. The Finance Ministry has listed the names of five Chinese on the duty list. These include companies like Anhui Futian Agrochemical, Inner Mongolia Lange Biotechnology and Hangzhou Nutrichem.
