IAA Olive Crown awards backs advertisers for their efforts in environmental sustainability

Mumbai:  “It’s time we act upon keeping our environment safe and green. We need to address the challenges and accept our responsibilities. We need to let people know what we stand for and work on the theme of consciousness and sustainability,” said Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy while speaking as Chief Guest at the India Chapter of International Advertising Association (IAA) Olive Crown Awards held in Mumbai on Friday.

Speaking further he said, “This is a terrific programme wherein the advertising world is willing to recognize the concern for saving planet earth by constantly working towards bringing about a change through their impactful advertisements.”

India Chapter of IAA, which is Asia’s first green recognition programme, hosted its 5th edition of the Olive Crown Awards on Friday. IAA, which stands on the theme of celebrating creative excellence in communicating sustainability, awarded people who have been successful in spreading the strong message of leaving behind a cleaner planet for the coming generation.

Srinivasan Swamy, President and Chairman of IAA, said, “We support causes that can bring about a change in people’s mindset through communication. There is an immense enthusiasm and potential in today’s media and advertisers. Their strategic thinking and creativity reflects in their advertisements and have the power to bring a strong change in people’s lifestyle and thinking.”

Govardhan Eco Village, which is a joint initiative by Apar Industries and Piramal Foundation, won the corporate social crusader of the year award. The award was received by Managing director of Apar Industries Kushal Desai on behalf of Piramal Foundation and Apar Industries.

‘Olive Crown Green Crusader Award’ was bagged by Sumaira Abdulali who has been passionately working towards environmental causes like reducing noise pollution and sand mining. “I cannot believe that I have received this award and I am grateful to everyone who have stood by me throughout. For me, working towards saving my planet earth is my personal conviction. It has been a wonderful journey till now and I will continue to do my bit,” said Abdulali.

The Awards ceremony witnessed a star studded presence of leaders from media, marketing and other segments. John Abraham was the Guest of Honour and Rana Kapoor, Chief Mentor of Yes Foundation was present for the occasion.

The Jury members were enthralled and pleased with the entries this year since they were innovative and held strong messages towards various causes such as keeping Mumbai clean and green.

The event also saw IAA and Yes Foundation sign a partnership agreement where both parties committed to jointly harness the power of media for social change. This was signed by Prerana Langa, CEO of Yes Foundation, Rana Kapoor, Chief Mentor of Yes Foundation and Srinivasan Swamy, President of IAA India Chapter and Vice President (Development), IAA Asia Pacific.
