Kolkata: IT services major Genpact Ltd today signed an MoU with Calcutta University to jointly develop a research and analytics programme.

Analytics is the scientific process of transforming data into insight for making better decisions.

The agreement will help post-graduate students of economics and analytics, the emerging sector in high-end job market, as courses would be developed in tuned with the industry, Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said.

There had been a trend that students from Bengal go outside for high-end jobs, he said.

“We are focusing at high end education like research and analytics. We are also trying to set up a centre of excellence aiming at producing a pool of skilled manpower,” Chatterjee said.

Calcutta University vice-chancellor Suranjan Das said a major challenge for higher education in India today is to develop a strong interface between university and industry which will mutually benefit the both.
