Tewari said the calendar was to ensure that the awareness of the flagship schemes reached the doorstep of the every citizen especially as the objective was to showcase ‘Haq’ (rights) for the common man.

“In the last ten years, we have been able to maintain the social cohesion and communal harmony in India. This has led to the economic fillip across different areas. All this has been eloquently captured in this calendar. Though today everybody is in possession of a mobile and can play their day on it, still the calendar, irrespective of it being a desk calendar or wall calendar, does have its own place,” he added.

Though media has enhanced its reach through digital means, calendars as a tool of communication have always had a special place in India, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said.

He said the calendar as a tool of communication played an important role in disseminating information regarding the policies of the government.  This initiative of the government was a step to make people aware of policies that aimed to achieve inclusive growth in the governance process, he said.  The minister said people in rural areas always have a passion for wall calendars.
