Closing Bell: Indices end negative; Sensex falls 446 points, Nifty around 16950

Cipla, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Infosys, and Apollo Hospitals were among the major gainers on Nifty

Today, the benchmark indices ended on a negative note, with Nifty around 16950.

The Sensex was down 446.01 points or 0.77% at 57479.27 and the Nifty was down 142.00 points or 0.83% at 16934.90.

About 1,030 shares advanced, 2,381 shares declined, and 130 shares were unchanged.

Cipla, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Infosys, and Apollo Hospitals were among the major gainers on Nifty, while the top losers were Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Adani Enterprises, Tata Steel, and Hindalco Industries.

All the sectoral indices ended in the red with PSU Bank, metals, and real estate down 2% each, while capital goods, oil & gas were down 1% each.

The BSE midcap and smallcap indices shed over 1% each.
