CII Launches ‘Shanghai-Mumbai Dialogue’

CII signed an MOU with Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce (SMCC) for Strengthening Economic and Trade Cooperation and Exchanges between both sides; Facilitate Cooperation in service Outsourcing and Technology Innovation; Strengthening Cooperation in Trade, Convention and Exhibition Industry; Enhance Cooperation in Investment and Infrastructure Construction and Establish a Long-term Communication and Cooperation Mechanism.

The “Shanghai-Mumbai Dialogue” brings together Government, industry and think tanks for an annual dialogue that leads to concrete measures to strengthen cooperation between these two cities and eventually extending to the whole of India.

Devendra Fadanavis, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra said “The state is now opening doors of opportunity for technology companies with 10 smart city project for improving city infra, the state government has allocated 15 bn USD for this project in the current year. With Shanghai as a partner to Mumbai we look forward to learn how we can transform the city with technology advances. With the Make in India initiative Chinese manufacturers can now locate themselves in Maharashtra as India is huge market, opportunities also exist for electronic manufacturers with the state’s new electronic and FAB policy which gives out huge incentives to manufacturers. There are immense opportunities in service sector with state planning to develop Mumbai as a Financial Service Hub.”

Han Zheng, Member of Political Bureau, CPC Central Committee; Party Secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee said that the world is following two economies and both have contributed immensely to the world growth.

Dr Naushad Forbes, President CII, mentioned that the Prime Minister has launched campaigns of Make in India, Smart Cities, Jan Dhan Yojana, Swachh Bharat, Digital India, Clean Energy, Skill India, Start-up India, creation of Smart Cities which focus on channelizing resources for growth in an inclusive manner. The engagement forms an integral component of the overall relationship and is set for exciting expansion due to proactive measures being taken by the governments of both sides.
