The CR450 prototype, China's next-generation high-speed train, has surpassed all current models to become the fastest train in the world with test speeds of 450 km/h.

The train's streamlined design saves more than 20 per cent on energy consumption, and its braking system has been tuned to guarantee stability and safety at these previously unheard speeds.

Speeds compared to older versions

The CR450 is reportedly much faster than the CR400 Fuxing trains, which are now moving at 350 km/h, according to state media reports. Since the project's start in 2021, a great deal of research and development has been conducted with an emphasis on passenger comfort, safety, and energy efficiency in order to achieve this breakthrough.

The new prototypes, the CR450AF and CR450BF, have an eight-car configuration and sophisticated features like a high-stability bogie system and water-cooled, permanent magnet traction, according to Xinhua.

China's aspirations for high-speed rail have advanced significantly with the unveiling, solidifying its position as a world leader in railway technology. According to reports , Li Yongheng of the China State Railway Group stated, 'China’s high-speed railway system has shifted from being a follower to a global leader.'

With additional testing and improvement, the CR450's operational capabilities will be improved in order to guarantee its preparedness for commercial service.

China has world's largest high speed rail network

With the longest and most sophisticated high-speed rail network in the world, China is prepared to improve passenger travel by implementing quicker, more comfortable, and more effective rail services.

According to the state news agency, China's high-speed rail network accounted for more than 70 per cent of the world's high-speed railway length as of September, with a total length of over 46,000 kilometers.
