Airports are often known for their ability to make commutes ultrafast, as flights take us from one place to another faster than any other known mode of transport.
Indian Airports' Sky-High Prices
Airports in India specifically are also known for something else. Indian airports are notorious for their services and products, which are offered at sky-high prices.
A bottle of water that is made available at the price of Rs 10-20 in a regular store is made available at an airport at a price 5-10 times higher than that.
AAP MP Raghav Chadha took up this issue in the parliament. Earlier, the MP had raised the issue of the prices and said that this pricing system had made it difficult for many commoners who fly to avail of the most basic services.
Brewing Change
In a follow-up to his query in the parliament, Chadha shared a post on the matter on his official X account. Chadha said, "Glad to see the change brewing! After I highlighted the issue of food affordability at airports during this Winter Session of Parliament, tea prices at Kolkata Airport have been reduced."

A Win For Citizens
Chadha here was reacting to the government-run Udaan Yatri Cafe, which has managed to bring down prices of items at the Kolkata Airport.
Chadha was citing a report from a publication, which claimed, that thanks to this government-run cafe which is running its pilot program in Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport would lead bring down price of a cup of tea to Rs 10, much lower than the current prices.
In his post, Chadha further added, " This is a win for us citizens, and I take pride in being the catalyst for this change. Hope more airports will follow this example and price food items more reasonably."
Furthermore, he added, Which issues should I raise in the next session?
