This will the first budget of the Modi 2.0 government, to which people have pinned high hopes. As we know Union Budget 2019-20 is a detailed reports on the country's financial plan including details of total revenue and expenditure. The budget document, prepared by the ministry of finance in consultation with other ministries and experts, lists all fresh/existing estimated allocations over a period of one year. But while announcing budgets earliers finance ministers have widely quoted poets, saints, economists and litterateurs over the years to reinforce macro-economic arguments in political and social context.

So here are some quotes used during announcements of budget over the years:

Union Minister Piyush Goyal presented the interim budget 2019 in February during which he said “Gau Mata ke saamman mein yeh sarkar kabhi peeche nahi hategi”. (This government will not fall back in respecting mother cow).

Arun Jaitley is known to resort to poetry while delivering his budget speech. In Union Budget 2018-19, Jaitley while talking about demonetisation and its positive effects said, "Iss mod par ghabra ke na tham jaaiye aap, jo baat nayi hai usse apnaaiye aap; Darte hain nayi raah pe kyun chalne se, hum aage-aage chalte hain aajaiye aap." (Don’t be scared and stop, why you are scared for walking on a new path, don’t worry I will walk in front you come behind me)

While reading Union Budget 2014-15, P. Chidambaram said, “Vel Anru Venri Tharuvathu Mannavan Kol Athuvoom Kodaathu Enin.”- Saint Tiruvalluvar (Not the spear but scepter swayed with equity alone gives the ruler victory)

Pranab Mukherjee during 2009-10 Union Budget said, “Just as one plucks fruits from a garden as they ripen, so shall a King have revenue collected as it becomes due. Just as one does not collect unripe fruits, he shall avoid taking wealth that is not due because that will make the people angry and spoil the very sources of revenue.”

During Union Budget 1998-99, Yaswant Sinha said ‘Flag we hold shall never bow, Marching steps shall never halt’.
