NEW DELHI : The government plans to provide additional benefits under the second phase of the regional connectivity scheme—Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik, or UDAN—to airlines operating smaller aircraft, a spokesperson of the civil aviation ministry said.

The government is also likely to provide more incentives to airlines and helicopter services operating in difficult terrain such as hilly areas of Jammu & Kashmir, the Northeast, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and islands including Lakshadweep, the spokesperson said.

Four-seater multi-engine air taxis and more concessions for helicopter services were likely in the second round of the government’s regional connectivity scheme. The second phase of the regional scheme is, however, unlikely to amend the route exclusivity clause, the official said.
