Gaurav Banerjee Appointed Chairman of BARC India

Banerjee succeeds Shashi Sinha who served as Chairman since March 2022.

Gaurav Banerjee, Managing Director & CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), has been appointed Chairman of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, effective immediately. His appointment was confirmed at BARC India’s Board Meeting held on August 1.

Banerjee succeeds Shashi Sinha, Executive Chairman of IPG Mediabrands India, who served as Chairman for over three years.

A seasoned leader with more than two decades in the media and entertainment industry, Banerjee also serves as Vice President of the Indian Broadcasting & Digital Foundation (IBDF). He is on the boards of MSM-Worldwide Factual Media and Bangla Entertainment.

Commenting on his appointment, Banerjee said: “BARC India continues to empower the industry with data-driven insights, and it’s a privilege to take on this role at the world’s largest TV audience measurement company. I thank Shashi Sinha for his exceptional leadership. As the media landscape evolves, I look forward to further strengthening BARC’s role as a trusted and credible measurement currency.”

Outgoing Chairman Shashi Sinha said: “It has been a privilege to work with BARC and its various committees. I’m grateful to the BARC team for their consistent support. I warmly welcome Gaurav Banerjee and am confident his leadership will help BARC continue to grow and innovate.”

BARC India CEO Nakul Chopra added: “We welcome Gaurav Banerjee as our new Chairman. His leadership will be key as BARC continues to serve the evolving needs of the broadcast and advertising industry. We also extend our sincere thanks to Shashi Sinha for his contributions, which have been critical in driving BARC’s growth and data capabilities.”
