Actress Rakul Preet Singh has reacted to her latest film 'Cuttputlli' being criticised for the romantic angle.
Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead, the film is a murder mystery. It is directed by Ranjit Tiwari and features Rakul as Akshay's love interest. The film released on an OTT platform on September 2.
'Cuttputlli' received mixed reviews from fans and critics, however, many called the romantic angle in the film unnecessary.
In an interview with Indian express, Rakul reacted to the criticism and said, "There is a certain section of the audience that enjoy (romance, song and dance). We have made this film for families. Indian films are known for the quintessential masala."

The actress added, "Today if you say that Telugu cinema is doing well, it is masala that is doing well. People want entertainment. People have had tough lives, especially the last two-three years have been very tough. Families, a large section of our Indian cinema viewers, enjoy the balance. So, if the story is thrilling and intense, a little bit of breather here and there makes it a family watch."
In the film, Akshay plays Arjan Sethi, a dutiful sub-inspector who took an oath to keep the people of Kasauli safe. However, fate has other plans as the killer strikes from the shadows of terror, leaving behind no trace of evidence, except a body.
Produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh and Pooja Entertainment, 'Cuttputlli' unmasks the killer and decodes the mystery using Arjan’s skills to understand the psyche of the murderer.
'Cuttputlli' is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
