R Madhavan reveals he had rejected 'Ghajini': 'Didn't like the second half'

Actor R Madhavan, who is currently basking in the success of his latest release, 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect', has revealed that he was the first choice for the Tamil film 'Ghajini', which was later headlined by Suriya.

Madhavan recently hosted an Instagram live session with Suriya, who played a cameo in 'Rocketry', and that is when the actor made the revelation.

Madhavan mentioned that filmmaker AR Murugadoss had offered in 'Ghajini', but he had rejected it as he did not like the second half of the film. "I told AR Murugadoss sir that I didn't like the second half of the film. 'Ghajini' went to many heroes and finally came to you. I was very happy. I had seen you in 'Kaakha Kaakha' and felt that 'Ghajini' had finally gone to the right person," he told Suriya.

Madhavan added that after watching Suriya in the film, he realised that he had become complacent "after giving a few hits". "I remember that you had not consumed salt for a week to maintain your physique. Seeing the hard work you put in, I questioned myself and felt that I wasn't doing justice to my career. It is only after that I started applying the advice that I had given you. After 'Ghajini', your career catapulted," he shared.

For the unversed, 'Ghajini', which released in 2005, starred Suriya, Asin, Nayanthara, Pradeep Rawat and Riyaz Khan in lead roles. The film went on to become one of the highest grossers of 2005.

Later, in 2008, the film was remade in Hindi with the same title with Aamir Khan stepping in Suriya's shoes.
