Ranchi: Upping his ante against the Hemant Soren government after Jharkhand High Court stayed the government’s decision to cancel multiple exams, Jharkhand Loktantrik Kranti Morcha (JLKM) leader Devendra Mahto on Friday announced that his organisation would launch "Bharti Vyavastha Sudhar Yatra" (Recruitment System Reform Yatra) on August 24.

JLKM announces reform yatra

Announcing that the Yatra will cover all 24 districts of the state, Mahto told newspersons that they were not going to compromise on their struggle at any cost. He asserted that the ongoing student movement in the state had become a focal point of national attention, while asserting that his fight was not aimed at depriving innocent candidates of their jobs.

“There is a strong sentiment attached to the CGL issue, and even selected students are facing difficulties today. My fight has never been about taking away the jobs of innocent students,” he asserted.

JLKM leader said the government must take responsibility for ensuring justice to deserving candidates and draw a clear distinction between those allegedly involved in irregularities and those who were innocent and deserving.

Mahto also announced a statewide “Recruitment Process Reform Yatra” from August 24, saying the campaign would cover 24 districts.

Questions over exam cancellations

Referring to the government’s decision to cancel multiple exams, he said the student movement had forced the Jharkhand government to take what he described as a “historic decision” against 45 examinations as 22 examinations were cancelled, investigations ordered into 17 others and six examinations postponed.

He alleged that the decisions were based on a CID investigation report that recorded statements of several ministers and pointed to multiple irregularities.

“However, when the High Court gave the government an opportunity to present its case, why did it not firmly place the CID investigation report before the court?” Mahto asked, adding that the development had disappointed students and the people of Jharkhand.
