Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A protest was staged in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur on Thursday over the murder of a man by unidentified assailants around 3 pm on Wednesday.
Angry over the incident, the victim’s family and local residents staged a road blockade on Thursday afternoon around 1 pm. They placed the body on the road and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.
According to information, the protest took place in Jabalpur’s Shankar Nagar area after the murder of a man, identified as Bhaiya Yadav.
Protesters accused the police of negligence and claimed that CCTV cameras were installed at the crime spot but the footage had not been properly examined.
They alleged that prompt checking of the footage could have helped identify and apprehend the culprits without delay.
Police presence was increased in the area to prevent further unrest, while efforts to track down the attackers are underway.
The protest saw locals joining the family, who raised slogans against the police administration and questioned the law and order situation in the city. The protest caused traffic disruption and chaos for nearly an hour.
Senior police officials arrived at the scene and assured the protesters of a fair and speedy investigation. They promised quick action and arrest of those responsible. The family removed the body from the road and ended the protest after getting assurance.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. The incident has once again highlighted public concerns over rising crime and the effectiveness of police action in Jabalpur.
