Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Yoga is not only about body. It is also about mind. It helps train mind avoid getting attracted to superficial glitter, allowing intellect to govern the senses rather than being governed by them.

If we deeply analyse the causes of sorrow, we find that the restless mind of a person in kali yuga suffers not from external pain but from its own turmoil. Even after seeing a burning body in a cremation ground and realising the temporary nature of life, the mind quickly forgets and returns to worldly attractions. This shows the true cause of human suffering, the uncontrolled mind.

Who should be our guide

Practicing yoga without proper guidance is inappropriate and potentially harmful. Yoga should be learned under the supervision of a qualified, self-disciplined guru. A person who is not mentally stable cannot guide others in yoga.

Yoga as psychotherapy

Yoga asanas also serve as psychotherapy. The body influences the mind. If you are tired or hungry, you feel irritable. A weak person gets angry easily. Healthy children cry less. Yoga primarily improves mental health by enhancing nerve control and endurance. Holding a posture requires mental strength, which develops willpower and concentration – the key to success.

Yoga and diet

Many avoid yoga thinking they must give up tasty food. In reality, anyone can do yoga regardless of diet. However, if you want full benefits, you must adopt a satvic diet – light, fresh, and balanced. Avoid heavy, spicy, oily food, and eat in moderation.

Yoga for women

Women often think yoga is not for them, which is a misconception. Women of any age can practise yoga. Post-pregnancy weight gain and changes in body shape can be corrected with proper asanas.

Yoga’s impact on muscles and bones

Without proper exercise, fat accumulates and causes diseases like heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, and respiratory disorders. Yoga keeps muscle tissues, nerves, and glands healthy.

Yoga and blood circulation

Yoga enhances blood circulation. Organs get proper nutrition, toxins are expelled, and overall metabolism improves. Sweat helps release body toxins.

Yoga and digestion

Yoga improves digestion. Movements like Agnisar and Uddiyan Bandh stimulate abdominal organs. Asanas strengthen the digestive system, improve hunger, and regulate stomach acids.
