Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 35-year-old woman, Kanti Prajapati, lost the battle of life on Thursday morning at Hamidia Hospital, four days after three men allegedly poured hot oil on her during a violent clash in Anna Nagar under Govindpura police station limits.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, reportedly over a dispute related to encroachment outside a tea snack shop.

The attack is suspected to be linked to a recent municipal action against illegal encroachment on the accused's shop. They believed that the action was taken on the complaint of the victim’s family.

According to Kanti’s husband, Mukesh Prajapati, his relatives Kamlesh Prajapati and his nephew had allegedly come to assault their son. When Kanti intervened to save her son, their relatives thrashed her and poured hot oil on her. One of the attackers also sustained burns in the attempt.

Staging a protest over the incident, Mukesh and his kin alleged the police reached the spot but refused to take his wife to the hospital. She was later taken to JP Hospital on a passerby’s scooty and subsequently referred to Hamidia Hospital, where she died during treatment.

Mukesh further claimed that police registered an attempt-to-murder case against him and his sons despite them being the victims in the incident. The family also alleged that police delayed recording statements and did not act swiftly at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, denying the allegations In-charge at Govindpura police station Awadhesh Singh Tomar said police acted promptly and arrested two accused within hours of the clash. Cops admitted the victim to a nearby hospital but her kin took her away themselves.
