Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Economic Survey of Madhya Pradesh 2024-25 states that compared to 2022-23, the wheat cultivation area decreased by 0.11% in 2023-24, leading to a 5.95% decline in wheat production.
On the other hand, the soybean cultivation area increased by 1.44% in 2023-24 compared to 2022-23, resulting in a 7.96% rise in soybean production.
The report further highlights a 1.15% decline in cereal production in 2023-24. At the same time, the production of pulses grew by 32.26%, and oilseeds saw a 7.80% increase. The area under paddy cultivation expanded by 7.85%, while maize production increased by 6.75%.
Milk production in 2023-24 grew by 4%, raising per capita availability to 652 grams per day. Egg and meat production recorded growth rates of 9.65% and 9.57%, respectively. In 2023-24, the per capita egg availability was around 40 eggs, while meat availability stood at 1.72 kg per person.
Meanwhile, the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) improved significantly, dropping from 70 per 1,000 live births in 2005-06 to 41.3 per 1,000 in 2019-21.
The total area under vegetable cultivation was 12.62 lakh hectares, producing 248.95 lakh metric tonnes in 2023-24. This increased to 12.85 lakh hectares, with production reaching 254.49 lakh metric tonnes in 2024-25.
The production of spices also saw growth. In 2023-24, spice production stood at 55.38 lakh metric tonnes, increasing to 56.42 lakh metric tonnes in 2024-25.
The challenge of eliminating poverty remains significant, especially in rural areas. The state's multi-dimensional poverty rate declined to 15.01% in 2022-23 but is still higher than the national average of 11.28%.
Issues like lack of clean cooking fuel and sanitation remain more severe in Madhya Pradesh compared to the national average. However, around 2.30 crore people have been lifted out of multi-dimensional poverty so far.
