Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): Heartwarming glimpses of Jwala and her four cubs surfaced from Kuno National Park on Saturday, in which the feline-family was seen quenching their thirst with water during the scorching summers.
The water was provided by a member of Kuno’s monitoring team, the ‘Cheetah Mitra,’ who poured it into a large container near the Cheetah, while they were resting.
In the video, the Cheetah Mitra arrives carrying a kettle and a container. He fills the container with water and gently calls out to the cheetahs using the word ‘Come.’
As soon as they hear the call, Jwala and her cubs come forward and start drinking in a calm and friendly environment. The cheetahs had just finished hunting goats before they came for water.
Kuno houses 17 Cheetahs
Currently, 17 cheetahs are roaming freely in Kuno’s open forest. They are gradually expanding their territory and actively hunting. Over the past few days, several videos have captured their activities, from hunting deer herds to attacking goats.
Due to many natural water sources drying up, the monitoring team is regularly providing water in containers to ensure the cheetahs don’t face water shortages.
The Cheetah Mitras, who work closely with the monitoring team for the safety of the cheetahs, have now become familiar with each one of them. The cheetahs also seem to recognize and respond to their commands. The Cheetah Mitra seen in the video offering water is identified as Sattu Gurjar.
5 cheetahs went out of national park
About 13 days ago on March 24, a troubling incident occurred when five cheetahs strayed outside the national park and were attacked by villagers with sticks and stones. A video of the incident went viral. Despite efforts by the forest department’s rescue team to keep the villagers away, they did not listen.
This was the first time that Jwala and her four cubs, who were released into the wild about one and a half months ago, crossed the boundary of the park. They were seen near Shyampur village in Virpur Tehsil, just a kilometer away from the under-construction Sheopur-Gwalior broad gauge railway track.
