Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Tensions rose in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain late Friday night after a video surfaced showing miscreants throwing a slipper at Shahi Masjid during the Jagannath Rath Yatra.

The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage among members of the Muslim community.

According to information, the incident took place when one of the two Rath Yatras in the city was passing by a mosque. The yatra had started from the Jagdish Temple on Dhaba Road and was returning via the same route after visiting Gopal Temple.

In the video, slippers are seen being thrown toward the mosque three times as the procession passed.

A large crowd gathered outside the Khara Kuan police station, raising slogans and demanding strict action. Protesters alleged that the act was intentional and aimed at disturbing communal harmony.

They submitted the viral video to the police as evidence and demanded that those responsible be identified and punished.

According to police, the slipper was thrown at the mosque located in Chhatri Chowk area while the religious procession was passing by.

Additional Superintendent of Police Nitesh Bhargava confirmed that a formal complaint had been received and assured that an investigation was underway.

The protest continued late into the night, with heavy police presence deployed to maintain peace in the area.
