Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh): A great-wrenching incident from highlighting ‘no dignity for the dead’ was reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district on Sunday.
In the Madwa village, under Lavkushnagar Janpad Panchayat, a woman’s funeral had to be conducted under a plastic sheet due to the absence of a proper cremation ground.
A video of the incident has also surfaced which is doing rounds on social media and raising concerns about the poor state of infrastructure in rural areas.
In the video, it can be seen that heavy rainfall forced the family to cover the body with plastic and perform the last rites beneath it.
The disturbing scene was captured on mobile phones by locals and is now widely circulating on social media, sparking outrage.
According to residents, this incident exposes the reality of development in the region.
Despite years of promises, the village still lacks basic facilities like a proper muktidham (cremation site), forcing people to carry out such rituals in undignified conditions.

Not the first case!
This is not the first case in which such a disturbing incident was reported.
Earlier, on July 5, residents of Sailana district were forced to cremate the body using old tyres, plastic waste and petrol, in the open, amid rainfall.
Later, on July 21, Neemuch villagers faced yet another struggle as they attempted to carry the body through the muddy and waterlogged path.
Locals have demanded immediate attention from authorities to ensure that such situations do not occur again.
