Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Urban planners have questioned the shifting of Bhopal Collectorate from Old Secretariat to Professors Colony (from old Bhopal to New Bhopal) without implementation of the Master Plan.

They are in favour of re-densification plan at the current site instead of shifting of Bhopal Collectorate from Old Secretariat to Professors Colony.

Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI) said that ‘If public representative raises issue, it shows that it is the voice of entire Bhopal. So, the government should consider his view before shifting Bhopal Collectorate from Old Bhopal to New Bhopal. It will also violate green norms due to Ramsar site (Lower Lake).’

Similarly, Capital Project Authority’s (CPA) engineer’s re-densification plan at the current site which has 4 hectares of land is definitely a better choice and shifting will make Professors Colony overcrowded. They have also raised questions on such shifting without execution of the Master Plan.

‘Construction not allowed in Professors Colony’

Ex-CPA chief Engineer Jawahar Singh said, ‘Professors Colony is already notified as low density area and Ramsar site (Lower Lake) where construction is not allowed. So government should go for re-densification plan at the current site instead of shifting Bhopal Collectorate from old Bhopal to New Bhopal. It is not justified to make Professors Colony overcrowded.’

‘There should be re-densification plan’

CREDAI president Manoj Meek said, ‘If Bhopal Lok Sabha MP Alok Sharma opposes the shifting of Bhopal Collectorate from Old Secretariat to Professors Colony, it reflects the voice of entire Bhopal. No one questions his view.

So, there should be re-densification plan with high rise constructions at the same site as there is enough space. Generally, construction is discouraged at Ramsar site (Lower Lake).

Otherwise, it will be violation of green norms. Thirdly, it is surprising over shifting of such building without implementation of the master plan.’
