Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of the first rail and metro coach manufacturing unit ‘Greenfield Rail Coach Manufacturing Centre’ at Raisen’s Dussehra Ground on Sunday.

Spread over more than 60 hectares, the factory will produce coaches for Metro trains and Vande Bharat trains. The first phase of the ₹1,800 crore project is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

After this the production will begin.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that while India works for the welfare of the entire world, it will not tolerate any attack and will respond strongly to any provocation.

The minister further highlighting the nation’s economic growth of about 6.5% annually, he described the economy as dynamic and robust.

He also informed that many defence items earlier imported are now made domestically, with exports worth over ₹24k crore.

Speaking on Madhya Pradesh, he said the state, known for its natural beauty, is now emerging as an industrial hub, with over ₹30 lakh crore in investments, an 18,000-hectare land bank, and better connectivity.

"Meanwhile the state ensures a balance between development and environmental protection," he concluded.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan

Speaking at the event, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan hailed ‘Operation Mahadev,’ recalling how in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, terrorists killed people after asking their religion. 

“Today, we take pride in saying that those terrorists were found in Kashmir and shot in the head. The whole world has seen India’s bravery,” he said.

He also emphasised on ‘Swadeshi products’ and encouraged the citizens to boycott foreign products. “If we start buying our essentials made in India, imagine how strong India would become as an economy,” he added. 

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Speaking on the rail manufacturing unit, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, said that the new coach factory in Madhya Pradesh will boost the railway ecosystem, addressing the programme virtually.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav

Addressing the event, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav said that farmers affected by excessive rainfall will be given all possible assistance. He also announced that land will be provided for opening schools and colleges. “There will be no shortage in the development of Raisen district,” he added.

The CM further said that even before metro services begin in Bhopal, work has already started on manufacturing metro rail coaches. The new rail coach factory will generate over 5k jobs.
