Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A monstrous crime shook Satna on Thursday as a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was raped by her 26-year-old neighbour, police confirmed.

The accused has been arrested. SP Satna, Ashutosh Gupta, revealed that the assault occurred in the Kuldama police station area. The girl’s parents filed a complaint after she returned home crying.

They had initially thought she was just upset from playing with the man, whom she called ‘uncle’. But when they pressed her, the toddler bravely recounted the nightmare he inflicted on her.

Swift police action

Swift police action followed: the accused was nabbed, a case was registered, a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The girl underwent a medical examination to collect evidence and confirm the assault.

Authorities assured speedy investigation and promised justice at the earliest.

The incident has sparked outrage across the state, with locals demanding the most strict possible punishment for the accused. Meanwhile, child welfare organizations have called for stronger surveillance and awareness to protect children from such heinous and horrific crimes.
