Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Two siblings died of electrocution after they accidentally stepped on a broken high voltage wire lying unattended in an open field in Jabalpur on Saturday.

Another child sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Children were chasing away cattles

According to information the accident took place in an open field in Suraiya Village of Patan police station area in Jabalpur where the children were chasing away cattle that had strayed into their farmland. Unaware about the danger they stepped on a live wire

The deceased have been identified as 13-year-old Chandni Pradhan and her brother 6-year-old Prashant Pradhan. Their 8-year-old cousin, Dilip, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

According to the villagers the broken wire lines were lying in the fields unattended for past 2 days. Local residents lodged multiple complaints in the electricity department. But no action was taken from their leading to this unfortunate accident.

Road blockage is staged in protest

Follwing the tragic deaths, family and local residents staged a road blockade on the Jabalpur-Damoh highway, placing the bodies of the deceased children on the road.

The protest led to a massive traffic jam as they demanded strict action against the electricity department officials and compensation for the victim's family.

Officials pacified the situation and assured justice

Upon receiving information about the protest, administrative officials from Patan and Shahpura police stations, along with other senior officers, reached the scene to pacify the protesters.

The administration assured the family of appropriate action against the negligent officials and financial assistance for the victim's family.
