Bhopal / Morena (Madhya Pradesh): As many as 268 cartridges of 9mm pistols and self-loading rifles were allegedly stolen from the armouries of special armed forces (SAF) in Morena district, an official said on Sunday. Morena’s additional superintendent of police Gopal Dhakad said that the commandants of SAF's 2nd and 5th battalion suspended their company commanders after the theft came to light on Saturday.
The official said an FIR was registered with Kotwali police after guards of armouries informed reserve inspector (RI) of police lines about the theft. He denied that pistols were stolen from two armouries of SAF.
Following the theft, Chambal zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sushant Saxena inspected the site and gathered first-hand information from investigators.
The police informed that cartridges were kept in two armouries. 140 bullets were stolen from 5th SAF and 128 were stolen from 2nd SAF battalion. The police are also trying to search the CCTV footage of the incident.

Bullets more precious than gun……….
Sources informed that for criminals, who keeps the weapon, for them bullets have more value than guns. ‘Because the gun is useless without bullets and they are sold in high price in gray market.
The missing of bullets is raising many questions about the nexus between suppliers and users’, one of the police officers said on condition of anonymity. It is also claimed that in Gwalior and Chambal region, there are more illegal weapons against the number of legal guns. The possessors of illegal guns need bullets and for that they pay high price.
