Madhya Pradesh: Five Dead After Carbon Monoxide Leak In Guna Well While Rescuing Calf; One Critical |

Guna (Madhya Pradesh): A noble deed turned deadly for five persons, who jumped into the well to save a drowning calf, but lost their lives in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna on Tuesday morning. Presence of poisonous gases in the well is said to be the reason of their death.

According to information, the tragic incident took place in Dharnavada village of Guna at around 10 am in the morning when a calf strayed into a field. Workers plucking mangoes in the orchard chased the calf away. Eventually, the calf fell into a well.

As locals attempted to rescue the calf, they began losing consciousness because of a speculated leakage of a poisonous gas inside the well. By the time, rescue team arrived, 6 people were already critical. All of them were rushed to the nearest district hospital.

On receiving information about the incident, Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal, SP Ankit Soni, CISF unit of GAIL, SDERF along with local police and administration team reached the spot and started the rescue.

The rescue team descended into the well with an oxygen cylinder and pulled out all the six people from the well with the help of a cot and rope.

Guna Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal said, "There was probably a leakage of carbon monoxide gas in the well. Lab test results are awaited for further investigation".

According to the SDERF team, there was about 12 feet of water in the well which complicated the rescue operation.
