BHOPAL : Hanumanganj police have arrested three pickpockets who had targeted an engineering student while he was getting down from a Tata Magic van at Sindhi Colony on Thursday.
Police said that the arrested accused have been identified as Rohit Sharma, Vivek and Monu Panthi, all residents of Teelajamalpura, who took out a wallet from the pocket of a 20-year-old engineering student Anoop Jain, a student of a private engineering college at Sukhi Sewania who resides in a hostel at Anand Nagar.
Investigation officer sub-inspector RS Dangi said on Thursday evening the victim was going to his hostel from the college and when he got down from a van he realised that his wallet carrying Rs 37,000 was missing. Later when he raised an alarm, the locals caught three miscreants who were fleeing from the spot and later handed them over to the police.
During further interrogation the three arrested pickpockets told police that they regularly travel on this route to loot passengers.
They confessed that earlier they pickpocketed another man Bhagwat Kushwaha (20) who works in a private company and was on his way to Nadra bus stand and after taking out money from the wallet they threw it which carried several important documents.
