Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Unexplored and lesser-known destinations in Madhya Pradesh have emerged as the favourite of youngsters interested in adventure activities, or simply sightseeing, this monsoon season.
Instead of flocking to already crowded tourist places such as Pachmarhi and Mandu, the youth are preferring getaways to Patalkot in Chhindwara district, Midghat near Budhni in Hoshangabad district, and Sultangarh in Shivpuri.
Such places also offer ample greenery and breathtaking views, and adventure sports such as trekking, hiking, and rock climbing. Accessible on even two-wheelers, so they turn out affordable as well.
Patalkot, a valley in the Satpura mountain ranges, located about 240 km from the state capital, can be reached by road via Piparia. The Doodhi River flows through the valley, adding to its beauty. Patalkot is a favourite for those interested in hiking, rock climbing, and trekking, besides bird-watching.
“It seems as if the rains have given a bath to the mountains. It felt so peaceful and calm there,” says Nepal Singh, just back from a solo trip to Patalkot.
Midghat near Budhni also offers a great view, with numerous waterfalls. The place is just 60 km from Bhopal. Due to safety concerns, the administration had barred access to Amargarh and Digambar Waterfalls in the area, but watching them even from a distance is a treat for sore eyes.
Sultangarh is a bit farther, about 365 km from Bhopal. It is best reached by travelling to Gwalior and then catching a bus or hiring a cab. Located in the Narwar Tehsil of the Shivpuri district, Sultangarh is known for a waterfall, River Parwati, surrounded by hillocks covered with thick, green forests.
However, Ankesh Yadav, who is planning to travel to Patalkot and Shivpuri, issues a warning note. “It is important to keep safety in mind. In the rainy season, rocks become slippery. (So one mustn't) enter an unknown water body even if one knows how to swim,” he says.
