Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A video of a contractual teacher from Government Girls PG College, Rewa, appearing in a severely inebriated state on a busy road has gone viral on social media. The incident took place on Saturday near the Civil Lines police station and Peeli Kothi compound.
In the video, the middle-aged teacher is seen struggling to walk due to intoxication. Eyewitnesses initially thought he was unwell and called an ambulance. However, paramedics found him drunk and left him at the spot.
Following the viral video, the college administration assured action. Principal Dr. Vibha Shrivastava confirmed that the man was a contractual lecturer and had been given a break from teaching. She clarified that such lecturers are hired on a merit basis for a few months and are periodically given breaks before being re-hired.
Dr. Shrivastava stated that she would bring the issue to the attention of Pragya Tripathi, chairperson of the hiring committee, on April 1. She also emphasized that the incident did not take place on the college campus. The video has sparked widespread reactions, raising concerns over the accountability of contractual teachers. Authorities are now expected to take further action on the matter. Further investigation is underway.
