SC turns down Arvind Joshi anticipatory bail plea

BHOPAL : The Supreme Court, on Monday, rejected the anticipatory bail plea of tainted IAS officer Arvind Joshi. instructing him to surrender in the local court in connection with disproportionate property to known sources of income.

His wife Tinu Joshi is already in jail in the same case. Recently, her bail application on health ground was rejected by High Court. She was even not allowed to witness her daughter wedding ceremony through Skype.

Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had rejected the anticipatory bail application of Arvind Joshi for allegedly amassing wealth beyond known sources of his income.

Turning down his bail plea, the High Court maintained that the applicant is “involved in a conspiracy to create a forged document in regard to insurance policies and other documents related to investment”.

Lokayukta said that he has amassed 3,151 per cent wealth disproportionate to known sources of his income. It contended that Arvind amassed ill gotten wealth of Rs 43,20,23,416, which is a huge amount.

The Lokayukta police had raided the official residence of the Joshis and unearthed huge wealth amassed by the couple in December 2010, ten months after the Income Tax department carried out searches at their Bhopal residence.

Supreme Court lawyer Pratul Shandilya said, “Supreme Court has rejected anticipatory bail of Arvind Joshi in the case of disproportionate property to known sources of income.”
