Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The salaries of 50,000 state government employees have not been drawn for six months. Although these staffers have employee codes, their salaries have not been drawn from the treasury.

Considering these employees' status suspected, the government is probing their records. The commissioner of treasury and accounts (CTA) is getting the case probed through a drawing and disbursing officer (DDO).

The treasury and accounts department has launched a campaign, seeking a certificate from each DDO that unauthentic employees are not working in their respective offices. According to sources, the salaries of 40,000 regular and 10, 000 temporary employees have not been drawn.

Because these employees have codes, there are possibilities that their salaries can be drawn anytime. This is the reason an inquiry into the case is underway. The total salary of these employees is Rs 230 crore.

Once the probe is over, it will be clear whether there has been any irregularity or not. Drawing a salary may be a problem if an employee is suspended or deputed to another place.

But the salaries not being drawn for such a huge number of employees indicate that fake employee codes might have been generated. According to a senior officer, the certificates issued by the DDO will reveal whether the fake employee codes were generated or not.

If someone does not get a salary, he will naturally try to know the reasons behind such lapses, he said. Although a large number of employees are not getting salaries, there are no complaints about it.

Because such things do not usually happen, there seems to be something fishy. This is the reason that the government is probing the case.
