BHOPAL: The state government, which is already spending tonnes of money on appeasing the farmers including bonus on MRP, subsidy in electricity bills and interest- free loans, spent lavishly in organising the Kisan Mahapanchayat.

According to sources, a whooping Rs 9 crore was spent on organising ‘ Kisan Mahapanchayat’ at Jamboree ground of the city on February 3.

The department of agriculture, through MP Agriculture Marketing Board, spent money for this Mahapanchayat. The Board, in the recent past compiled and analysed the expenditure made in this event.

The arrangements namely tents, transportation and meals are the main heads under which expenditure was made. Around 90,000 farmers, who were mobilised by the collectors, had attended this programme.

According to an official of Mandi Board, the Board had transferred money for the transportation of farmers from and to various districts and their meals. He said the Board had made arrangements for the meals of farmers at various centres.

Pandals ( tents) were installed after inviting tenders. With details of expenditures made during Mahapanchayat being revealed, there are chances of political parties making an issue of huge expenditure.
