Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and Local Crime Branch (LCB) exposed a major theft of diamond-gold jewellery and cash worth Rs 35.45 lakh within 48 hours.

The incident took place on June 20, 2025, in the A-2 coach of train number 22944 Indore-Daund Express, when a 73-year-old female passenger from Indore found her handbag missing on waking up in the morning near Kalyan station.

The bag contained property worth about Rs 40 lakh, including diamond bangles, necklaces, rings, a gold watch-chain, and Rs 50,000 cash. The victim called helpline 139, and an FIR was lodged at GRP Lonavala.

Joint teams of GRP-RPF scanned CCTV footage of 18 major stations on the train route from Indore to Daund.

Investigation revealed that a suspicious person got down at Kalyan station but was trying to avoid the cameras by not coming out in time.

Based on intensive surveillance and technical analysis, the accused Mahesh Arun Ghag alias 'Vishwas' (resident - Chembur, Mumbai) was identified, and his hideout was raided.

All the stolen goods were recovered safely in the raid and handed over to the victim's family.

The culprit has been involved in theft cases in the past as well and was recently on bail.
