Betul (Madhya Pradesh): Three people died and nine sustained injuries after a speeding car rammed into a parked truck on the Betul-Nagpur National Highway. The horrific road accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday near Multai, when the victims were on their way to Kubereshwar Dham, Sehore.
The deceased include 42-year-old Deepak, his 40-year-old wife, Chhaya. The third deceased woman has not yet been identified. Police have sent all three bodies to Multai Hospital for post-mortem.
Nine people, including the car driver, were injured.
Victims were travelling to Kubereshwar Dham.
According to the police, all the people in the car were devotees from the Butibori coal mines area near Nagpur, Maharashtra. They were travelling in a car to Kubereshwar Dham in Sehore.
In the initial investigation police found that the driver dozed off and failed to notice the truck parked on the side of the road. However, the exact cause of the accident will only be clear after the investigation is complete.
People nearby immediately called 108, and an ambulance arrived at the scene and took the injured to the government hospital in Multai. After first aid, six of the injured were referred to Nagpur due to their critical condition.
The injured included Naitik (father Upendra Gandhiwar) (10), Ujjwala (wife of Mohan) (45), Neeta (father Anil) (25), Anushka (father Upendra) (18), Sangeeta Eknath, Shambhu, Nandan, Prajjwal (father Deepak), and Saurabh (father Nandkishore) (20).
According to eyewitnesses, locals rushed to the scene after hearing the crash. The car's front wheel was ripped off. The impact had pushed the front seat backward, and the car's roof was also extensively damaged. After hours of effort, the victims trapped in the vehicle were rescued.
Police have registered a case and started investigating the accident.
