Rajgarh (Madhya Pradesh): Residents of ward number 14 in the Boda area in the city staged a sit-in outside a liquor outlet on Tuesday, demanding closure of the shop.

They were angry because the excise officials reopened the outlet after it was sealed following a protest by them. The protesters, including women, sang devotional songs during the sit-in.

The police station in charge and Nayab Tehsildar sealed the shop on March 29. But the excise inspector reopened the shop within one and a half hours of its closure.

A protester, Sunita Yadav, has said drunkards create a ruckus in the evening and litter the area with liquor bottles and other things. They also hurl abuses at one another, she said. The residents have been demanding the removal of the liquor shop so that they may live peacefully.

The excise officials assured the residents of removing the liquor outlet in the new financial year.

Although the validity of the licence of the liquor shop ended on March 31, the officials allowed a new shop from April 1 after the issuance of the licence.
