Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A protest erupted in Jabalpur after following a controversial question asked in the exams conducted by Rani Durgavati University.

This incident came to fore on May 3 during foundation course examination of BSc second year. The question paper asked “where is the ‘Tomb‘ of Rani Durgavati?”

Notably, tombs or (makbara) are a part of Islamic culture, whereas Hindus refer to it as ‘Samadhi’. Congress’ National Students Union Of India (NSUI) staged protests, demanding strict action against the responsible persons. They have also demanded the accused persons to issue an apology.

Reacting to the controversy and the protest, the university administration said that they were trying to find out how such a mistake happened?

According to information, Question number 42 was asked about Rani Durgavati in the foundation course paper of BSc second year. It read- Where is the tomb of Rani Durgavati built? Students were given four options for the answer- (a) Barela (Jabalpur) (b) Bamhani (Jabalpur), (c) Chargunwa (Jabalpur) and (d) Dandai (Jabalpur).

"Insult to mother power and public faith"

Students, social organisations and history lovers expressed anger over the incident. They say that linking Rani Durgavati, a symbol of valor and sacrifice, to the 'tomb' not only shows historical ignorance, but is also an insult to the mother power and public faith.

University's examination controller Professor Rashmi Tandon said, “It is extremely wrong to use the word 'Tomb' in the question related to Rani Durgavati. We all know that Rani Durgavati's Samadhi Sthal is not a Tomb. Still such a mistake has been made.”
