Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): As summer has begun, the plan of forest department to catch black bucks from open areas of Shajapur district and shift them to Kuno National Park and Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary seems to have gone into cold storage.
The reason is that summer season is not suitable to translocate wild animals. The project was conceptualised almost two years back but it could not bear fruit.
Even an expert team from South Africa was roped in but in want of copter, the team also could not arrive.
As the summer season has begun, it looks that the issue related to translocation of black bucks, which are posing threats to crops, will be extended till the next winter season.
Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary officials were eagerly waiting for the arrival of black bucks from Shajapur to increase the prey base for the upcoming cheetah project.
A forest officer of Shajapur said that normally, translocation of wild animals is not done in summer season.
Hence the project to catch black bucks and shift them to other places seems to be hanging in balance till next winter season. Notably, black buck population is increasing rapidly in Shajapur district and used to feed on crops, creating problem for farmers. On many occasions, farmers have requested local administration to find solution to the issue.
