Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh): Hundreds of villagers blocked traffic at the Akashvani trisection in the city on Wednesday, protesting against the police failure to stop the theft of cattle.

The blockade brought the traffic circulation on the Rewa-Gwalior and the Sagar-Kanpur highway to a grinding halt. The residents of the villages adjacent to the civil lines police station and city Kotwali area participated in the road blockade.

Initially, the villagers reached the SP office with their tractor-trolleys. Then they went to the Akashvani Trisection, raising slogans against the administration.

The villagers alleged that the incidents of theft of livestock were reported from Kanti, Barkauhan, Gangayach, Basata, Kadari, Shy amri, simriya, Karri and other places.

The angry villagers said the thieves escaped with their cattle kept in the cowsheds, but the police did not take any action. They also alleged that the police did not even register a case.

City superintendent of police Arun Kumar Soni assured the agitators that the cases in which reports had not been lodged would be seriously taken into consideration.

Soni said a few incidents of theft had been registered, but the police would take action on such cases.Soni said that his efforts would be not let any case remain unsolved.

All efforts will be made to recover the stolen livestock, he said. After his assurance, the villagers lifted the road blockade, which created traffic bottleneck on the highway, causing troubles to the commuters.
