Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): Over 200 people from three villages fell ill due to food poisoning after eating food at a bhandara (community feast) in Shivpuri on Monday.

The incident is of Mamoni Kala village panchayat, Shivpuri district.

Out of them, 60 people are in serious condition and have been admitted to the civil hospital.

A health department team has set up a camp in the village to treat the patients.

Due to the high number of sick people, some are being treated at a local school.

Doctors say that almost every house has one or two sick people, and the number may increase.

According to reports, the bhandara was held Monday evening for the pran pratistha (installation) of a deity’s idol. Many villagers took the prasad and leftover food home.

After eating, people started complaining of vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain.

The health department team reached the village as soon as they got the news and began treatment.

Vinod Mishra, the sarpanch pati (husband of the village head) of Mamoni Kala, said that over 60 people have been admitted to the hospital, while others are receiving treatment in the village.

The health department has deployed six doctors, including medicine expert Dr S K Pippal and BMO Rohit Bhadkariya, along with nursing staff, in Mamoni Kala, Ladaipura, and Tarpan Ka Purba villages.

District Medical and Health Officer Sanjay Risheshwar said that initial tests suggest food poisoning, but the exact cause will be confirmed after further investigation.

So far, 170 people have been checked, and many were found suffering from vomiting, diarrhea, and fever.

All patients are under treatment, and officials are closely monitoring the situation.
