Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Members of the Muslim community staged a protest over the Centre’s Waqf Amendment Bill in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur on Tuesday. The protests are in line with the demonstrations being held by the minority groups across different parts of the country.

The members staged a 24-hour 'dharna' in Jabalpur, demanding withdrawal of the bill. The agitators raised objections on the proposed Waqf committee that will now include women and two non-Muslim members.

Protesting the Waqf Bill in Jabalpur, Sardar Abdul Hakeem Baba said, "The Momin Idgah committee of Gohalpur was formed by our ancestors here. They bought the land and built the masjid here. The government has formed a new committee, causing disruption and distrust. We request the government to dissolve the panel and let Muslims manage the committee and further, the Waqf board."

Huge protest on March 13

Another protestor, Yakub Ansari, said that Muslims will stage a huge demonstration on March 13 at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, and this protest is in line with the nationwide protests.

He further claimed that the new committee sent by the government here to manage Momin Idgah comprises inefficient and uneducated people. "Our ancestors have given their blood and sweat for Momin Idgah. We will not accept this decision. We request the government withdraw the committee."
