According to mother Alka Jain, Abhyuday was alone at home at the time of incident. When she returned around 7 pm, she found the door locked from inside. After multiple failed attempts to open it, she took a spare key from the landlord.

Upon entering, she discovered Abhyuday lying unconscious in his room, his legs tied up and a dupatta wrapped around his neck. Neighbors and the landlord rushed him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
