Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): A woman and a seven-year-old boy died after a tractor-trolley came in contact with a high-tension power line in Shivpuri on Friday.

Two others were seriously injured in the accident and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby health centre.

The incident took place in the Kolaras area of Shivpuri on Friday morning.

Police said the victims were travelling on a tractor-trolley that was going to collect fodder from nearby villages.

A 10-foot iron pipe fixed to the trolley touched a high-tension electric wire while the vehicle was moving on a dirt road, causing a strong electric current to spread.

According to Kolaras police station in-charge Gabbar Singh Gurjar, the victims belonged to a Banjara family from Khedli village in Rajasthan. The family had come to the area to buy fodder, which they collect from villages and later sell in large quantities.

At the time of the incident, Vinod Banjara, Leela Bai Banjara, Kesar Bai Banjara and seven-year-old Anil were on the tractor. The electric current caused Leela Bai’s saree to catch fire, and the child was also caught in the flames. Both died due to severe burns.

People travelling in another tractor-trolley behind them rushed to help and took the injured to hospital. Doctors later confirmed the deaths of Leela Bai and Anil, while Vinod and Kesar Bai remain under treatment.

Police said two tractor-trolleys had left their camp near a toll tax point in the morning. One of the tractors was travelling from Dehrada village towards Dodyai village through a dirt road when the iron pipes attached to the trolley hit the hanging high-tension wires. Trees in the area made the wires difficult to see.
