Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana has said his priority will be to curb corruption with an iron hand and restore discipline in the department. “Wherever I worked, I tried to wipe out corruption.

My approach will remain the same in the police department. Corruption at all levels will be sternly dealt with,” he told reporters after assuming charge on Monday. The new DGP also shared his priorities with the media persons.

The DGP stated that the corruption weakens the root of the department and he wanted the police department should stand firmly against the evil. He also advocated for discipline in the police force and stated that preparation for Ujjain Simhastha is one of the biggest responsibilities for the police.

“Discipline is the pride of the uniform. Every police officer should honour their uniform by maintaining discipline in their appearance and conduct,” said the top cop. The DGP further said the people killed in road accidents outnumber the one killed over feuds.

To reduce road deaths, he said, the police department is going to coordinate with the other departments and will discuss with them about the road engineering. For controlling cyber and other crimes, he advocated for use of technology. “Police personnel need to be given proper training to deal with cyber fraudsters. To check activities of the goons and criminals, CCTVs and other digital gadgets will be used”.

Stating that Simhastha is going to be a mega event, Makwana said that it will take one year to train all the police personnel for the mela duty, to deal with the visitors arriving at the religious congregation.  Taking a note of the shortage of police personnel, specially taking note of Simhastha, the officer said that the department has started gearing up for the recruitments.
