Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has issued a stern warning to Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani medical colleges across the country, including those in Madhya Pradesh, stating that their recognition will be suspended for the academic session of 2025-26 unless the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) is implemented.

This new directive applies to all Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani (ASU) medical colleges, and it aims to ensure strict monitoring of faculty attendance. Currently, more than 590 such medical colleges are operating across the nation, with over 19,000 teaching staff. However, only 179 institutions have activated the AEBAS system so far.

The NCISM has stressed that these colleges must install the biometric system to maintain their accreditation, otherwise, they risk losing recognition, which could have far-reaching consequences for their operations and future enrolments.

Dr. Rakesh Pandey, spokesperson for the Ayush Medical Association, said that the AEBAS system will allow NCISM to directly monitor staff attendance from New Delhi, providing a transparent mechanism to track the performance of both teaching and medical staff. The move is seen as a step towards eliminating negligence in teaching and improving the overall medical system, ultimately benefiting both students and patients.
