MP: Borewell tragedy-FIR against rescued boy’s father, grandfather over negligence

A day when a eight-hours rescue operation of Dipendra Yadav (5), who fell in an open borewell in the field of his father in Narayanpura village, Orchha police lodged an FIR against kid’s father and grandfather on Thursday.

The child, Dipendra, was taken to hospital where he is completely healthy and kept under the supervision of doctors while on the other hand immediate and strict action has been taken by the district administration in this matter for deliberately leaving the borewell uncovered and putting boy’s life in risk.

A case under section 308 of IPC was registered against Dipendra's father Akhilesh Yadav and grandfather Ramesh Yadav at Orchha Road police station on Thursday.

This matter remained talk of town among locals throughout the day. Some people of the city say that this strict step has been taken by the police keeping in view the public interest, while on the other hand the intellectuals and social workers have raised questions on this action of the police.

Dipendra Yadav's father Akhilesh Yadav and grandfather Ramesh Yadav has been considered by the police as accused of section 308 of IPC, deliberately leaving the borewell open and creating a situation of possibility of death due to it, the police said.

Mixed reactions on the action

Social worker Amit Bhatnagar says that the family was in complete shock as soon as the child fell into the borewell, with great difficulty the child's life was saved. The immediate action of the police on the family is not right. The family of the child should have been let off with a warning. Some locals supported action on the negligence.

However IG (Sagar range) Anurag pleaded ignorance about the police action taken against boy’s father and grandfather and said he would enquire about the matter from Superintendent of Police Chhatarpur.

HM warns action

Home Minister Narottam Mishra early on Thursday has congratulated the entire team that rescued the child who fell in the borewell. Kotwali police station in-charge Anoop Yadav and Rajnagar police station in-charge Deepak Yadav, who played an important role in the rescue operation, will be rewarded.

Mishra had warned that such negligence on uncovered borewell will be dealt sternly.

Chhatarpur Collector has instructed all the sub-divisional revenue officers of the district that to avert any similar incidents in future, open borewells should be closed with immediate effect by contacting their owners.

Dipendra, 5, had fallen into the borewell at his farmhouse on Wednesday afternoon and was rescued by joints teams of SDRF and NDRF late evening.
