Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The 28th meeting of Madhya Pradesh–Maharashtra Inter-State Control Board will be held at Vallabh Bhawan in the presence of CM Mohan Yadav and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on 10th May.

A MoU will be signed for the implementation of the world’s largest groundwater recharge project, the ‘Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project’, officials said here on Friday.

Chief Minister stated that the MoU will mark Madhya Pradesh’s third major inter-state river project following Ken-Betwa Link Project and Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project.

Through Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project, three streams of Tapti River will be developed in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra to ensure optimal use of every drop of river water for irrigation across both states.

The CM added that discussions will be held with the Central government to declare this as a National Water Project. The interests of Madhya Pradesh’s water needs have been carefully considered in this project.

The total water usage in the Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project will be 31.13 TMC, with 11.76 TMC allocated to Madhya Pradesh and 19.36 TMC to Maharashtra. The project will utilise 3,362 hectares of land in Madhya Pradesh, with no displacement of villages and no need for rehabilitation.

The project will provide permanent irrigation facilities to 1,23,082 hectares in Madhya Pradesh and 2,34,706 hectares in Maharashtra. In Madhya Pradesh, the project will benefit four tehsils, namely—Burhanpur, Nepanagar, Khaknar, and Khalwa—across Burhanpur and Khandwa districts.
