Alirajpur : Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, on Monday, visited Chandrashekhar Azad Nagar to review the preparations of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme to be held on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off a 15-day exercise to mark the nation’s 70th year of Independence by visiting revolutionary leader Chandrashekhar Azad’s birth place in Bhabhra, in Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh, on August 9 (Tuesday) to commemorate the proposed ‘Azadi 70- Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani’ program of the union government. Functions have been planned for a fortnight around Independence Day, beginning from August 9 till August 23, as part of the program.

Born in Bhabhra on July 23, 1906 Chandra Shekhar Azad died on February 27, 1931 at Alfred Park in Allahabad after he shot himself to evade arrest by the police in connection with revolutionary activities. August 9 is also the 91st anniversary of the Kakori case. Azad was connected with Ram Prasad Bismil’s Hindustan Republican Army (HRA) and later founded the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army (HSRA) as he was greatly influenced by socialist thought. The venue of the PM’s programme is located at village Khetrada, 7 km from Azad Nagar and is currently in a sea of mud due to heavy rains posing challenge to the administration to prepare the venue. Chouhan reached the venue by helicopter which landed on the temporarily built helipad near the venue around 2:00 pm. He was welcomed by local MLA Madhosingh Dawar, Kishore Shah and other party leaders in the presence of the district collector, divisional commissioner and other district officials.

Chouhan reviewed the ongoing preparation works and gave detailed instructions to minister in-charge Vishwas Narang and other district officials to manage the event successfully.
