BHOPAL : Panchayat and rural development minister Gopal Bhargava inaugurated five new rural branches of Canara Bank on Tuesday in a function. Additional chief secretary, panchayat and rural development, Aruna Sharma presided over the function. Commissioner, Panchayati Raj, Raghuvir Shrivastava was also present.
Minister Bhargava said the state government had made a provision of Rs 100 crore for the buildings of bank branches opening in rural areas. He said gram panchayats under Mukhyamantri Gram Samridhi Bhawan Yojana would get buildings for bank branches costing Rs 10 lakh in rural areas. A nodal officer at state-level has also been appointed for the smooth implementation of this unique scheme launched by panchayat and rural development department.
Bhargava inaugurated five new rural bank braches of Canara Bank at village Kararia Trisection, village Hansua and village Jivajipur of Vidisha district, village Medki of Raisen district and village Dhangawan of Jabalpur district. As of now, these new branches have been set up in government buildings. Panchayat and rural development department has given Rs 10 lakh to each panchayat for these bank branches. The new buildings will be constructed in collaboration with the respective GPs.
Aruna Sharma said MP model of financial inclusion ‘Samriddhi’ had been successfully implemented. To provide banking facility in five kilometres in remote areas, as many as 2,024 ultra small banks had been opened. Several other states had initiated to emulate this unique scheme implemented in the state, she added.
Canara Bank CGM Shyamlendu Saha said as many as 150 branches of Canara Bank had been established so far and in the coming years, 100 new branches would be opened. He said bank account of every family would be opened to extend the benefit of financial inclusion in every village.
Bank’s Bhopal region deputy general manager S Jaikumar, Indore region deputy general manager LVR Prasad also addressed on the occasion. Sarpanch and public representatives of gram panchyats of Kararis Trisection, Hansua, Jivajipur, Medki and Dhangawan were also present.
