Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Passengers at Bhopal Junction railway station are facing a lot of challenges due to the ongoing Bhopal Metro construction project. The main entrance to Platform 6 has been temporarily closed, creating a diversion that has complicated access to the platform.

As part of the temporary changes, the pick-up and drop-off zones for auto-rickshaws and taxis have been relocated around 200 meters from the station entrance, causing inconvenience for many passengers. This has particularly affected elderly individuals, people with physical disabilities, and those traveling with medical conditions.

Moreover, passengers arriving by train at Platform 6 are facing difficulties reaching nearby transport facilities. The nearest taxi stand and bus stop are now situated about 500 meters away from the platform, making it harder for passengers to continue their journey.

Auto driver Tarikh highlighted a recent incident where he had to carry a 17-year-old physically challenged boy on his shoulder, walking 200 meters after being denied access to bring his auto closer to the station entrance. Commuters with heavy luggage are also expressing frustration over the lack of alternative arrangements to ease their movement, with many calling for the installation of shuttle services or additional support during the construction period.

Imran Khan, president of the taxi union at Platform 6, stated that for the past 15 days, around 4-5 passengers with physical disabilities or medical conditions have faced daily difficulties accessing the platform. He noted that guards at the gate have refused to allow auto-rickshaws or taxis, even for passengers in need.

Passengers can seek RPF help at gate: PRO

Naval Agrawal, Public Relations Officer of Bhopal Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), acknowledged the temporary nature of the situation and assured that the station provides wheelchair facilities. He added that passengers requiring further assistance can seek help from Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers stationed at the gate.
